Google News alternative
A Google News alternative you describe in plain English
Google News picks headlines and personalized stories with algorithms, and you can follow topics, sources and places. MyFeed works the other way around. Write what you want to follow in a sentence, and it builds a feed from more than 200 RSS sources and news outlets. Read it on the web or get it by email, for free.

Google News and MyFeed at a glance
Google News facts are as described on news.google.com and in Google News Help on 1 November 2026, and may change.
- How you build a feed
Google News
You follow topics, sources and locations. Your followed interests fill the Following tab, and For you picks stories based on your interests.
MyFeed
You describe a topic in a sentence. MyFeed finds the matching stories for you.
- How stories are picked
Google News
Computer algorithms. Personalized sections use your Google News settings and your past activity on Google services and YouTube.
MyFeed
AI scores each story against your description. Your activity on other services is not used.
- Where stories come from
Google News
News coverage aggregated from sources all over the world.
MyFeed
More than 200 RSS sources and news outlets, plus Google News search results for your topic.
- Account
Google News
news.google.com shows top stories without signing in. Following, saved stories, local cities and daily briefing emails need a Google Account.
MyFeed
Public topic feeds are open to everyone. Custom feeds, bookmarks and email digests need a free account.
Google News
A daily briefing email, turned on in the app's News settings.
MyFeed
A daily or weekly email digest for each feed, on the free plan.
- Local news
Google News
Follow cities. Google News may suggest places from your Google Maps home and work addresses or your device location.
MyFeed
No location setting. You can name a place in your feed description.
- Apps
Google News
news.google.com on the web, and apps for Android, iPhone and iPad. The app is not available in some countries.
MyFeed
Web only. It works in a mobile browser.
What MyFeed does differently
- 1
Describe exactly what you want
Google News lets you follow a topic, a source or a place. In MyFeed you write the feed yourself, like "open source AI models" or "climate tech funding in Europe". MyFeed scans more than 200 RSS sources and news outlets, searches Google News for your topic, and uses AI to keep the stories that match.
- 2
Picked from your words, not your history
Google News personalizes For you from your settings and your activity on Google services and YouTube. A MyFeed custom feed follows the description you wrote. On the home feed, More and Less reactions move a source's stories up or down on your device.
- 3
One email per topic, for free
Turn on a daily or weekly email digest for each feed and read it in your inbox. Up to 3 custom feeds, email digests, bookmarks and reactions cost nothing, and no card is needed to sign up.
Where Google News is stronger
Google News covers far more ground than MyFeed, and it does a lot that MyFeed does not.
- Breadth: Google describes it as comprehensive news coverage aggregated from sources all over the world, with top stories and local news.
- Full Coverage: more sources, perspectives and context for one story, with no personalization other than your language, region and subscriptions.
- Local news for the cities you follow.
- Native apps for Android, iPhone and iPad, with notifications you can set from low to high, and an Audio Briefing in the Android app.
- Fine control over sources: follow a publication, hide all stories from a source, or ask for fewer stories like one you saw.
- Saved stories to read later, and up to 2 languages and regions of interest.
Who should choose which
Choose Google News if
- You want the day's top headlines and world news, not one narrow topic.
- You want many outlets on the same story side by side, with Full Coverage.
- You want local news for your city.
- You want a native app with notifications.
Choose MyFeed if
- You follow a narrow topic that is easier to describe in a sentence than to pick from a list.
- You want a feed built from a sentence you wrote, not from your search and YouTube history.
- You want a daily or weekly email for each topic.
- You want to move your list in or out as OPML.
You can also use both: keep Google News for the headlines, and add a MyFeed email for a topic you want covered closely.
Coming from Google News
MyFeed is not a separate news index. Google News search results are one of its sources, so some of the same stories can show up in both. What changes is how they are picked: by the description you write, instead of the topics you follow and your activity on Google.
To move over, write each topic you follow on Google News as a sentence in MyFeed. Each one becomes a feed, and the free plan has up to 3. If you keep other feeds in a reader, MyFeed imports OPML too, but each entry becomes a topic feed named after the source rather than a copy of that feed. You can export your feed list as JSON or OPML at any time.
Try a public topic feed first
Ready-made topic feeds are open to everyone. Open one and start reading, no sign-up needed.
On the home feed, More and Less reactions move a source's stories up or down on your device. Custom feeds, bookmarks, reactions and email digests need a free account. Pro, with unlimited feeds and hourly refresh, is planned but not available to buy yet.
